Analysis and Conclusions/ Post Lab

Analysis and Conclusions:

1.) What appeared on the filter paper? In the Alcohol test strip the ink smeared. Then in the H2O test the ink stayed the same.

2.) What did the results indicate about the black ink? What classification of matter could you give the ink?
The results indicate that the black ink has mixtures of colors also. The classification of matter i would give the ink would be a heterogeneous mixture.

3.) Is chromatography a useful separation method for ink mixtures? Explain based on your results. Yes chromatography is a useful separation method for ink mixtures. For example when the alcohol raised on the test strip the ink also raised and separated the mixtures of colors in it.

4.) If you could alter the experiment to test another condition or factor, what would you change or test?
I would probably want to test a different color marker like brown with vinegar or bleach.

Post Lab:
1.) How does paper chromatography work? What do the results tell us? Preferential adsorption of chemical compounds (gases or liquids) in an ascending molecular-weight sequence.
